Anthea Lewis DA Edin, was born in London 1948 and moved to Adelaide, South Australia in 1959. This experience proved to be a huge influence on her work. On Green Island off the coast of Queensland, she saw feral cats staring out through the jungle undergrowth. She moved back to Britain in 1963 and in 1970 graduated from Edinburgh College of Art and she was exhibited widely throughout Scotland, London, New York and Paris. Her paintings are highly detailed studies of animals in exotic settings. Specializing in cats, she paints with intensity to reveal the soul in their eyes, usually working in gouache or acrylics. She has also made sculptures out of recycled materials. such as tins etc. covered in papier mache, coils, decorated with exotic collage mosaic patterns.
