Wilhelm Freddie (1909-95) was a Danish surrealist painter, often neglected outside of Denmark. He was part of the initial surrealist movement, and had his paintings shown in the first surrealist exhibitions. This exhibition of reproductions of his works is a celebration of his surrealist paintings. Many of these will be unfamiliar, even to well-informed art aficionados. He painted in the verist style but is not especially influenced by any of his contemporaries. He often dealt with sexuality, and this lead to his work being proscribed by the Danish authorities. |
